The Ph.D. program is a multi-conceptual and research-based degree program designed to produce top-quality Journalism & Mass Communication educators and researchers. It not only focuses on preparing students to be excellent teachers at the university level but also engages them in conducting scholarly research in Journalism & Mass Communication and Media management. Ph.D. in Journalism and Mass Communication is a doctoral-level degree course in mass communication. The programme imparts in-depth knowledge to candidates with experience in news and broadcasting enhancing their expertise.

 

The minimum eligibility criteria required for the course is a Master’s degree in the same field with a minimum score of 55%. The candidates will be expected to undertake an enquiry through practice which can result in an original contribution to the existing knowledge in the field. The programme generally involves Journalism, Mass Communication, Electronic Media, New Media, and Media studies


Ph D - Mass Communication Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for admission to this program are as given below. 

  • Candidates with 55% marks in Post-Graduation Degree in (Journalism & Mass Communication/Advertising/Public Relations/Media Management/Media
  • 5% relaxation is allowed for students from reserved communities. 


Ph D - Mass Communication Admission Process 

There are two kinds of admission process for the program enrolment. Entrance-based and merit-based. 

Entrance Based Admission: Here the admission is allotted based on the entrance exams conducted by the relevant institute. Students with the relevant cutoff marks will get the admission in the respective colleges after counseling. Most of the institutions conduct a Group Discussion and Personal Interview for the admission allotment. Some of the top entrance exams to the admission of Ph. D in mass communication are, CET (Common Entrance Test), JNU Ph.D Entrance, NET (National Eligibility Test), IPU CET 

Merit-Based Admission: This also can be called Management Quota admission or Direct admission. In this admission process, the student has to apply directly to the desired university or college through their application process. Some of them offer online and some offline.
